Oregon

Every year we take a trip back to the Oregon coast.  I can't live without making this trip at least once since the last time we moved from our coastal home.  I dream of being back every day, the ocean feels like home to me and I truly felt like I belonged there.  Most of the early years when the children were babies we got a hotel for the stay (usually 3-5 days) and it was the most expensive trip of the year.  The last 4 years of trips our family has gotten camping down to a science and we have stayed at a beautiful place called Beverly Beach.  Ideally we rent yurts but when those are unavailable we all fit nicely in our 8 person tent.  It is never warm on the Oregon coast, even in the dead of summer but with six people, our tent is always comfortable.

This year we played on the beach as always, went crabbing and had a huge seafood boil at the campsite with two great friends.  We also made fish magnets and went to some of the programs put on by the campsite.  We even went whale watching hosted in Depot Bay with our camp hosts.

We visited Hatfield Marine Research center, and Rouge brewery.  We even got to see our friend Herman the Sturgeon on our way home.   This year’s trip was also a commemoration of our wedding in June.  We decided that our honeymoon wasn’t really so fun without kids, dogs and friends and I don’t regret a second of it.
